GDAY WORLD #114

Welcome back to the very first Australian podcast. Yes I’m saying that to increase my googlerank for the term “australian podcast” because I discovered today that it SUX.

MY desktop PC (the one I edit one) died today and is in hospital, so I haven’t been able to balance the levels on this show. Should sound ok though. Using my sexy new mic for the first time.

UPDATE: Now that my PC is back, I’ve upped the level. I still sound a little soft…grrr. It’s better though.

Join Richard Giles and I while we rant about…

Don’t forget to check out the new shows on TPN.

Well done Cameron. A tear of pride falls down my cheek as I type this . . . one less jibroni in the world.

  4. David Fuhrer Says:

Greetings Cam! Howdy Rich! Third time was a charm with “Kordahi”…..let’s see how you do with “Fuhrer”. :) :)

I’ve got an Aussie related question for ya’. What city/region in Australia would offer the best “6 month life experience” if one desired a cheap furnished flat/condo…preferred not to have to have a car….had no dependents and no need for employment….wanted to avoid big city life but still needed reasonable access to modern amenities (broadband a must, modern gym a must)…and wanted to live a healthy lifestyle in a beautiful area as INEXPENSIVELY as possible?

    CHEERS!

  5. Cameron Reilly Says:

David, I’ve read enough WWII history to know how to pronounce your surname! You need to tell me the background behind having it as a surname though. Amazing. Doesn’t it mean “ultimate leader”?

As for your question… depends on what kind of weather you want and what kind of things you’ll want to do while you’re there. Good food & coffee a priority? Culture? Beer? Beach?

  6. Richard Giles Says:

Wow David, you’ve made that question a little difficult. I think Cam is right. What exactly do you mean by experience?

To give you a hint at the intricacies, I’d say the following.

Life Experience = Melbourne, Sydney, Darwin, Alice Springs, Kalgoorlie :)
Cheap/Inexpensive = Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, most country towns
    No Car = Melbourne
Avoid Big City = 99% of Australia
Broadband = Apparently we don’t have that in Australia
    Modern = Any city

Everyone’ll have there own opinion as well :).

    Rich

  7. David Fuhrer Says:

Good points on the “where to live” feedback. In fairness, it was an impossible question that I asked.

Regarding the backgroud of the Fuhrer family surname….I emailed my Dad to make sure I had it right. :) Per pops….

“it means ‘leader’ or ‘mountain guide’ in German, as used in Galicia which is an area of Poland that has shifted through the centuries among Poland, Germany, and Austria.”

OK….yeah….whatever, Dad! I’m sure what he MEANT to say was that the high king of Germany anointed us as the “ultimate leader” clan for performing never before seen acts of heroism and bravery. ;)

    CHEERS!

  8. Krash Coarse Says:

Hey Cam and Rich, will you still thank me personally for listening even if I’m always a show behind? :)

The hammering on Canadians was pretty funny, BTW.

Also: Madge Weinstein runs her/his own “gay\alternative-friendly” podcast network.

    I do a better Elvis…
    I love my SM58’s :)

    Cheers lads!

  9. Cameron Reilly Says:

Krash, i thought Madge was on Podshow?

  10. Phillip Molly Malone Says:

He/She/it is but she runs a directory call q-podder (or something like that) with a lot of Gay, Lesbian, Tranny and bi shows on it (well thats what I hear on DSC anyways).

    Molly
PS. Have you set up a hit on AC in second life yet?

  11. Cameron Reilly Says:

Why would I do that Molly? I’m a huge fan of Alice Cooper… :-)

  12. Roger Says:

    Hi guys,
Im just catching up on shows.
Im a listener, so you can add my name to your list.

    rog.

PS. also im planning to send you an audio comment soon, about that misquoting jesus book that we were talking about the other week

  13. Phillip Molly Malone Says:

    ;-)
But serious, I would love to see you play up with Adam Curry, he just seems so into this, would love to hear him talk about being wacked in Second Life. Go on. I would chip in some dollars for this. Why not ask other if they would as well.

How about just some petty vandalism? Maybe some sort of mention to keep podshow out of Second life, its TPN Turf.
    Molly

  14. Phillip Molly Malone Says:

On the Red Paper Clip guy:
    a) I think he is another Canadian!
    b) You should get him on the show, he does Podcasts

On other matters. Man you sound great with the new mic! You almost sound professional.

    Molly

  15. Miriam Says:

Oh good I’m not the only one who’s way behind then. Just finished listening to this today and i’m halfway through the next one. Great stuff, although it wasnt loud enough. Usually G’day World is perfectly loud enough for me to hear it over background train/traffic noise but I had to strain to hear it today (and no I didnt accidently turn my mp3 player volume down either - I checked) New mic is great. Your voice sounds way less harsh.

  16. Manuel Noriega Says:

    Cameron/Rich:

Thanks for the mention on the podcast. I don’t know if anyone will still see this since it’s really late. But I just listened to the show last week. Sorry, but I’m suffering from podcast overload and don’t have enough time to listen to all the podcasts I’m subscribed to ( I may have to cut back on some :( ). And so I’m way behind on G’day World.
