I'm not sure it would help much. I think they already know this is a fight to the death. Bottom line is that (many of the) people of Palestine feel like they have been invaded and they want their country back (certainly Hamas feels that way). Which is understandable. The people of Israel aren't going to leave. Which is understandable also. And the USA needs as many military bases in the middle east as possible, so they won't tolerate any Israeli administration that takes a weak position on Palestine. It's a hard one, that's for sure.

Nick Hodge diplomacy

1. universal ceasefire: both sides. only restriction is no bombing/shooting/rocketing etc from either side for 24 hours.

2. a delegation containing humanitarians and politicians from UN, US, Israel and Gaza visit hospitals both in Israel and Gaza.

3. whilst visiting, the delegations dont take journos. they are there to experience the harm they are doing to innocents on both sides.

4. leave delegations in hospital for many hours: not a fly-by-night PR stunt.

Hopefully some sense comes to both sides:

- indiscriminate rocket/bombing kills those who are not combatants. No matter how much or how little you "target"

- violence just kills people; it doesn't actually solve the problem.

But then again, who am I to say?
